Viral Testing for Cats
Have you just recently adopted a stray kitten or cat? Do you not know your new feline companion's history? If you do not know its history, we HIGHLY recommend testing for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). These viral infections are highly contagious, and are spread from infected cat to infected cat through saliva. Once infected, these diseases are usually fatal.
Ladyvet Animal Hospital offers a simple blood test that only requires 3 drops of blood and 10 minutes to run. This test will let us know if your new feline friend has been infected with one of these diseases. This test is the ONLY way to tell if your pet has been infected. If you plan on bringing in a stray with your other feline pets, we would HIGHLY recommend screening your new feline before bringing it into your home.
